So how are your New Year Resolutions going so far? As we enter each new month, we have an opportunity to start again on our quest to reach our goals, hopes and dreams.
The word February originates from the Latin word Februum (purification) and was celebrated with the Roman Festival of Purification; making February the perfect time for our own ritual of purification.
Spiritual purification is simply coming back to center. Life can take us on a carnival ride and leave us scattered, confused and depressed. Purification brings us back to our true source and simplifies our struggles. It enables us to remember that, despite all the commotion and chaos of being human, we are in truth, spiritual beings in a human body.
Start a Ritual
Rituals are a healthy way to take time to nourish our "self" and reconnect with the magic that surrounds us.
How you purify is totally individual. Detailed rituals are abundant on the internet and Light Omega is one site that will inspire and assist you in the journey.
But it's easy to develop your own festival based upon your comfort level and time. Just focus on the process: removing toxins from your body, mind and soul and the end result: reconnecting with your spirit.
Pick a day this month for your own Festival of Purification and enjoy a ritual that will rejuvenate you physically, mentally and spiritually.
Body Purification
The easiest is sometimes the hardest, especially when it comes to our fast food, junk food culture. But taking a day to detox your body will have a tremendously purifying effect on your mind and soul.
Fasting is the most effective way to cleanse the internal body but should not be undertaken if you have health issues without medical guidance or at least some education. If fasting isn't for you, try a day on a detox or cleansing diet.
Don't limit your body purification to the inner body. Treat your body like the temple it is. Body treatments that will renew and restore you from the outside in.
Mind Purification
Nothing can run a muck more wildly than an over taxed mind. Known as the Monkey Mind in Buddhism, our own brains can drive us crazy with its endless chatter.
Spend some quality time in total silence everyday to meditate, pray or just be. Even 5 minutes can give you a much needed mental health boost.
Soul Purification
The absence of ritual is a tragedy. Rituals are not hocus pocus but simply symbolic actions that serve to remind us to value our spiritual being. If you connect to spirit by dressing in your Sunday best, listening to the preacher's sermon and returning home to watch the football game, you're probably ripe for a spiritual purification.
Soul purification will unite you with your spiritual self and release the unhealthy and unnatural attachment to the human self.
- By cleansing the body and mind you have taken the first steps towards spiritual cleansing. It's necessary to raise your vibrational energy through the body/mind purification in order to fully participate in spiritual reconnection. It's also helpful to start the process the night before with a Dead Sea mineral bath, a light and fresh food dinner and eight or more hours of sleep.
- Set the stage for your purification. Place yourself in a clean and safe environment. Surround yourself with the beauty of nature, plants, flowers, candles, water or art. Make sure the air is pleasant to the senses. Remove the negative energy by reading spiritual passages from the Bible, Upanishads, the Quran or other holy texts.
- Asking is a vital part of reconnecting to spirit. Whether you ask God, Alllah, angels or the universe, ask: for guidance, wisdom, peace and healing. If you aren't happy just sitting and asking or praying then write in your journal.
- Listening is the key to receiving the gifts that are ours. Once you've asked, prayed or journaled, be quite; shut up actually. Listen without expectation or interference. Feel you are receiving even if you don't think you are; just be silent and feel.
- Trust is the final step in soul purification. As a society, the farther we have moved away spirit, the farther we have moved away from trust. Dishonesty and harm are rampant today; from our government officials to our neighbors to our internet sites, we must be on guard and tread carefully. While this may be necessary to avoid loss of limb and livelihood, it conditions us to distrust the very thing we are; spirit.
To trust in spirit is to trust that living a life for the higher good of all concerned is the only life worth living. Think of the power we would all have if we just operated from that position.
