Caduseus

Nothing can improve your attitude quicker than a glass of wine or cold beer. Better still the medical community is telling us that a drink or two daily is better than none at all. The perfect prescription for anti-aging?

Current studies are abundant and conclusive;  drinking in moderation appears to stop the dis-eases of aging by lowing your risks of heart attack or stroke,  lowing blood pressure,  preventing Alzheimer's,  diabetes, arthritis,  osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, blindness, gallstones and, of all things, liver disease.

Studies Don't Lie Right?

Alcohol as medicine may be news to our over-consumptious society, but it has a long history in cultures all over the world. Beer jugs dating back to the  Neolithic period (10,000 B.C.) have been unearthed.

Osiris, the god of wine, was worshiped throughout Egypt and the Babylonians were thought to drink more beer than water. Contaminated water has been a plague through the ages and for many alcohol replaced it as a healthy alternative.

The Chinese considered alcohol a spiritual food using it in ceremonies and sacrifices. The Bible has numerous references to wine and it was viewed by many as a gift from God.

So Drink Up

Not so fast. Alcohol's alleged cure might be just another of it many curses because alcohol  comes with one little stickler;  frequent drinking leads to chronic drinking.

Whether our need is  via genetics, chemical imbalance or psychological trauma, alcohol make us feel delightful and numbs our problems; at least until the next morning.

Alcohol is a deceitful abuser disguised as a devoted lover.

In the long run drinking one to two alcoholic drinks per day is impossible for the vast majority because, very simply, alcohol is  addictive and its chronic use will lead to more health problems than health benefits.

Resveratrol is the extract found in red wine that has the true health benefits. Read more about it here and find out how to add it to your diet.

Intoxicare (intoxication) Latin Meaning TO POISON

Ethyl (drinking) alcohol is widely used for industrial and commercial sanitizing and cleaning. It's used as a solvent in perfumes, paints and antiseptics and in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, adhesives, cosmetics, explosives, inks, plastics and textiles. Still think it could possibly be good for you?

As baby boomers age, they take with them the carefree habits of 60's and so it' s no surprise that the fastest growing segment in the US of alcohol abuse is in persons 65 and older.

Alcohol is not an anti-aging magic bullet and it won't improve your health. Alcohol makes you look and act stupid and speeds up the dis-ease of aging. Here are just a few ways it does that:

  • Destroys brain cells and leads to brain damage. The aging drinker is less likely to recover from cognitive impairments.
  • Produces irregular heartbeats and causes heart damage.
  • Alters the DNA structure and leads to cancer especially to the mouth, esophagus and stomach.
  • Interferes with prescription medications with dangerous adverse medical complication.s
  • Decreases osteoblast (bone formation) numbers in cells.
  • Causes induced blackouts, which are the result of decreased oxygen to the brain.
  • Increases depression and psychiatric disorders in older drinkers.
  • Metabolizes and excretes slower in the aging body as tolerance decreases.

Alcohol is a toxin and the leading cause of cirrhosis of liver, which is the deterioration of the hardest working organ in the body. Read more about its toxic effects at the American Diabetes Association.

Wait for the next round of studies to come out that "prove" toxins aren't a part of healthy anti-aging attitude.

Are your faking the cure or feeling the curse? You can recover from alcohol use.
