The power of positive thinking theory has always seemed like a lot of work to me.
Do I have to think good thoughts about everything and everyone all the time?
Aren't the Pollyanna's of the world slapped around and scammed again and again? Don't we have to be a little tough and street smart to survive the crazies and angries of our world?
If you're looking for a little more positive in your life but the PT theory doesn't work for you, maybe autosuggestion is just what you are looking for.
What goes on in our own head creates the little part of the universe we live in. Using autosuggestion, also called affirmations and mantras here, is a way to create a you (and a world) you want and a way to keep the negative elements from doing the creating for you. Auto suggestions put you in control of your own destiny and prevents self talk from sabotaging the way you want to live.
Every Day, In Every Way, I'm Getting Better And Better Émile Coué
Émile Coué de Châtaigneraie may not have been the first to use an affirmation but his chosen mantra is probably one of the most famous. Born in France in 1857, Émile's affirmation is known as the Coué Method. A psychologist, Coué used his affirmation as a method of psychotherapy and optimistic autosuggestion by repeating it at the beginning and of each day.
The doctor asserted that by changing unconscious thoughts through the imagination, one could resolve problems and even affect organic changes. Coué was probably the first to utilize the placebo effect when he praised the curative nature of medicine his patients used. But Coué went further by claiming that a positive mental state could improve and amplify the medicine's benefits. In other words, you get to reinvent and heal yourself in your own imagination.
What Messages is Your Mind Broadcasting?
- I'm too tired
- I'm old to do that
- I feel awful
- I'm angry, sad, depressed, alone
- I can't lose weight
- My memory isn't very good anymore
- I can't learn new things
Are you right? Probably after all it's your universe and you get to decide. If you told another any of the above about yourself, what reason would they have to doubt you? Likewise, your body and mind believe everything you think and the more often you broadcast the message the more ingrained the belief becomes and if it wasn't the case before it will be soon.
