Is the odd little Asian fruit called mangosteen the anti-aging fountain of youth? Of course not. There are no known anti-aging potions but there are things that are better for you and mangosteen is one of them.

Unfortunately, in the U.S., through years of conditioning, our palates are pleased more by cake than broccoli. The results of which is a country with sky rocketing obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's.

It is therefore curious why when a new all natural food comes on the market that it is slammed as something only a health nut would eat. The truth is that mangosteens have been eaten for centuries by millions of  people much slimmer and healthier than the average American.

But then fruit isn't as profitable as discovering new pharmaceuticals or raising health care premiums.  And the bottom line is that the matter of health in this country is driven by the profits available through ill health.

Cheap and easy doesn't keep hospital doors open or doctors on the golf course.  That attitude and the general attitude on aging in this country will not change as long as it is a multi-million dollar business.

Your best health benefit is not spelled out in an insurance brochure. It is in the quality of the foods you eat, the activities in which you engage and the anti-aging attitude you live by.

Why Mangosteen?

One picture is worth a 1000 words. While mangosteen isn't why these Southeast Asian children are fit and thin, healthy eating is and the typical American diet is why our kids are fat.

Mangosteens are rich in anti-aging antioxidants and a chemical compound known as xanthone, which is also a powerful antioxidant in the phytonutrient family.

Research indicates that xanthones reduce inflammation and fatigue, lower cholestrol and blood pressure and have natural health benefits relating to seizures, allergies, bacterial infections and tumors.

Xanthones have also been shown effective in aiding weight loss and reducing many age related conditions such as arthritis, dementia, anxiety and depression, chronic pain and diabetes.

Called the Queen of Fruits, mangosteen tastes sweet and tangy with a favor similar to pears, strawberries and grapes. It may never replace cake in your life but it may give you years longer to enjoy your vices.

Just mix the mangosteen power with cold water or milk
and enjoy the guiltless pleasure.
