Is tapping therapy just new age mombo jumbo or is it a way to change your attitude and change your life?

Meridian tapping therapy or Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is based on the ancient principles of Chinese acupuncture. Developed by American psychologist, Roger Callahan, TFT often uses affirmations and works with the body's energy system as a way to release negative beliefs that keep us from getting what we want.

Proponents claim TFT works 15-20 times faster that other types of psychotherapy and has a 90% success rate.  Since it's free, easy and takes little time or effort, why not give it a try. It actually feels good and may just anti-age you.

Although TFT is considered a fringe psychological treatment, it really isn't all that out there when you consider that you are just using a technique that reprograms your mind to attract what you do want instead of what you don't. Tapping parts of your body may look odd, until you understand its relationship to the meridian system.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) recognizes that we have a subtle energy field that attracts and repeals.  You experience subtle energy all the time and with all people. That gut feeling you had that he was trouble or that she was nice is just sensing or picking up the vibes in your environment.

When your attitude is bad, your subtle energy is blocked.

By middle age, we have all experienced thousands of reasons to have blocked energy. None of us are immune to pain and sorrow. Staying that way though is a choice.

As you blood flows through your circulatory system, subtle energy flows through your meridians.  If your subtle energy become stuck, you experience illness or emotional turmoil.  One way of releasing blocks is through acupuncture; another is through tapping.

Tapping How-To

  1. Pick an issue or emotion to work on. As you start tapping, focus on that issue or emotion in the first cycle as described below. In the second or additional cycles acknowledge first and then release the matter.
  2. Tap in the order given below. Use 2-3 fingers on your dormant hand and apply light, quick taps similar to if you were tapping a friend on the shoulder.  Tap 6-8 times in each area and then repeat the cycle 1 or more times.
  3. Depending on the issue or emotion, repeat the process one or several times per day until the subtle blocked energy is released and your attitude is adjusted.
